No GTA V at E3 2012 means no pre-holiday launch says Pachter

No GTA V at E3 2012 means no pre-holiday launch says Pachter

Grand Theft Auto V is unlikely to launch this holiday season, according to latest prediction from Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter.

GTA VInitially Rockstar Games highly anticipated open-world action sequel was expected to arrive in October 2012, but as the game had no show at E3 2012, Pachter now believes that a 2012 release is unlikely.

In a recent note to investors, Michael Pachter said, “There was no announcement of Grand Theft Auto V at the show, making a pre-holiday release less likely,”

“Company management confirmed that it would most likely notify retailers of a GTA release 3 – 4 months prior to launch, suggesting that a GTA release date announcement is virtually certain to occur by November.”

In short, it seems like GTA franchise fans won’t be playing GTA V this year.

How I Met Your Mother To Become RPG | Elder Scrolls Online

The bold new game no one wanted.

In a startling revelation, How I Met Your Mother creators Craig Thomas and Carter Bay have just announced their plan to transfer their television series into a role-playing format.

This shocking news comes after a mere 24 hours of the show’s ending, however the writers seem immensely enthusiastic about the proposition.”

“We just want to keep milking that golden goose.”

Thomas proclaimed.

“It’s truly remarkable,” Bay justified,” With the use of a video game medium, we can finally express all our plot elements and unique stories we weren’t previously incapable of doing on the small screen.  We want to immerse the player in lavish adventures with the HIMYM gang.”

Bay went on to explain some of the wild stories the player would embark on, such as working together with the character of Barney to find more iterations of the word legendary.

“Ted grumbling about his failed love life would act as a sort of game over screen whenever the player would die.” Thomas added.

A mist the bombshells dropped, there was also talk of day one downloadable content, With access to Bob Saget’s narrations for one dollar, or the complete library of Barney’s suit armada skyrocketing all the way up to a whopping 20 dollars.

Halo 5 Actor Confirms Cortana Will Return in Halo 5: Guardians | Halo 5: Guardians

Halo 5 Actor Confirms Cortana Will Return in Halo 5: Guardians | Halo 5: Guardians

Against all odds, Cortana will return in Halo 5: Guardians.

“Don’t make a girl a promise… if you know you can’t keep it.” It’s words like those that left a haunting impression on gamers who fell in love with the Halo franchise and its signature AI, Cortana.

[Major Halo 4 Spoilers Ahead!]

She was a major character in every core entry of the series, and until the events of Halo 4. In the Halo universe, an AI degrades over the span of seven years, and by the time of Halo 4, Cortana was eight years old.

In the end, she had to fragment herself into hundreds of copies in order to save series protagonist Master Chief, and stop the Didact from transforming humanity into his digitized slaves (yeah, it’s complicated). As really Master Chief’s best friend and constant companion since the start of the war, losing her is what starts him off on his journey in Halo 5.

Even in the original announcement trailer for Halo 5: Guardians, we see that he still carries her broken carrying chip like a dog tag.

Further hints have been revealed about Halo 5: Guardian‘s plot, such as a new Spartan from Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI), Agent Locke, who is searching for Master Chief. On top of this, just recently in an interview Locke’s voice actor has confirmed that Cortana will be returning, at least in some capacity, to Halo 5: Guardians.

“When [Locke] goes into Halo 5, you’ll see him transition into a Spartan, a super soldier. It’s a prominent role within the game,” he said. “Obviously Master Chief will be involved, Cortana, but Locke will be one of the playable characters in Halo 5.” — IGN

While the idea that Locke will be a new playable protagonist is exciting in its own right — many were suspicious that Cortana would return in Halo 5: Guardians. There are a number of speculated reasons, from Chief trying to get the Forerunners to repair her, to seeing about reversing the Didact’s plan and finding a way to make a digitized person into a physical being.

The humanification theory is one of the most popular fan theories.

There is also the possibility though that Cortana may only be brought back for flashbacks. Seeing as her voice actor Jen Taylor is still actively working in the series, voicing Cortana’s creator Doctor Halsey, it is not without reason to suspect this may be the case. Still, there’s hope Master Chief may find a way to bring his closest ally back from the dead.

On top of this, a new website has cropped up with the Halo 5: Guardians logo at the bottom. It is called “HUNT the TRUTH” and features a bullet with the word TRAITOR written on its side. There is a clock counting down to two days from now (as of this writing), likely to some new trailer or announcement for Halo 5: Guardians‘ single-player. It has also been tweeted out by Halo 5 writer David Ellis.

What do you think? Do you want to see Cortana return in Halo 5? Would you prefer 343 Industries respect their choice to let the character die in Halo 4? Let us know in the comments below!

Cities: Skylines shatters Paradox first-day sales records

Paradox Interactive set out to build a city, but it looks like developer Colossal Order has built an empire. Cities: Skylines has surpassed all of the publisher’s expectations and is reporting the highest opening day sales in its history.

In just the first 24 hours, Cities: Skylines has sold more than 250,000 copies (including pre-orders), blowing away any previous game in Paradox’s catalog. Paradox Interactive CEO Fredrik Wester issued a thanks to Paradox’s fanbase via a press release, but also made sure to thank Colossal Order for their efforts.

“Our congratulations and thanks must also go to developer Colossal Order for making what is being widely described as the new benchmark of the city building genre,” Wester added. “We have forged a strong partnership with them over a number of years through the release of Cities in Motion and Cities in Motion 2, and I am happy to see such a talented team now being widely applauded for their unmatched passion and skill.”

Apple security chief John Theriault retires

Apple security chief John Theriault retires

Apple’s Vice President of Global Security, John Theriault, has left the company, it has been confirmed.

AllThingsD reports that it had independently verified that the former FBI agent was retiring after 9to5Mac first reported that Theriault had stepped down. His LinkedIn profile list Theriault as still currently holding the role of Vice President of Global Security, though.

Theriault was behind the investigation into a lost iPhone 4S prototype that saw Apple employees accused of impersonating police officers to gain entrance to the home of a suspect in the case.

AllThingsD’s report mentions that sources close to Apple believe the bungled investigation was a key factor in Theriault’s departure.

Theriault joined Apple in 2007 from drug company Pfizer, where he was the Chief Security Officer. He was apparently closely involved in the fight against fake Apple products in China, according to leaked cables exposed by Wikileaks.

EU looks into mobile phone dangers for kids

EU looks into mobile phone dangers for kids

The European Commission has launched a consultation into the dangers mobile phones pose to minors. The outcome might be new EU laws to protect children from stalkers, bullies and dangerous internet material, the Commission said.

According to a Eurobarometer survey conducted two months ago, 70 per cent of European youngsters aged 12 to 13 and 23 per cent of children aged eight to nine own a mobile phone.

As handsets get more sophisticated, the threats to children from misuse mount, said the Commission, which is the EU’s executive and regulatory body. Simple text messaging has been used by paedophiles to lure children, it said.

School bullies have used camera phones to film their assaults and taunt their victims later. Phones with access to the internet open up an even wider range of hazards, the Commission said.

Mobile phones pose economic risks too.The market for ring tones, which is targeted almost exclusively at children and adolescents, generated about €500 million in sales in Europe last year.

The Commission is offering interested parties a chance to take part in the consultation, which runs until 16 October.

Some countries, including the UK, rely on self regulation to prevent mobile phones and mobile services from being misused to the detriment of children. Other countries, including Germany, have strict laws that require age verification as well as other security measures.

The Commission would prefer a system of self-regulation. But if that isn’t sufficient it may propose internal market laws, said Martin Selmayr, a spokesman for Viviane Reding, the European commissioner for information society and media.

The consultation, which launched on Monday, is part of a process that started in June 2005, when a plenary session of the Safer Internet Forum attracted 200 representatives from industry and child-welfare organisations. The Safer Internet Forum is part of the Commission’s Safer Internet Program, which has been running since 1999 and aims to equip parents and teachers with the knowledge and tools they need to ensure internet safetyfor children.
