Microsoft Buys Minecraft Creator Mojang For $2.5 Billion, PlayStation And iOS Version Won't Be Pulled Down

Microsoft Buys Minecraft Creator Mojang For $2.5 Billion, PlayStation And iOS Version Won’t Be Pulled Down

Microsoft has just officially confirmed the long pending rumor “Microsoft Buying Minecraft’s Creator Mojang” for whooping  $2.5 billion. The firm made the announcement via their official Xbox blog. Microsoft Xbox Division Boss, Phil Spencer said: “Today is an incredibly exciting day for our team as Mojang and the Minecraft franchise join Microsoft.”

Microsoft Mojang Buy Out Deal

“Our relationship with Mojang began when we initially talked to the team about bringing Minecraft to the console. Minecraft quickly became the top online game on Xbox Live, with over two billion hours played on Xbox 360 in the last two years. That working relationship set the ground work for other opportunities. We’ve long seen the incredible potential of Minecraft.”

Phil Spencer also confirmed that they won’t pull down PlayStation and iOS version of Minecraft:

At Microsoft, we believe in the power of content to unite people,” he said. “Minecraft adds diversity to our game portfolio and helps us reach new gamers across multiple platforms. Gaming is the top activity across devices and we see great potential to continue to grow the Minecraft community and nurture the franchise.  “That is why we plan to continue to make Minecraft available across platforms – including iOS, Android and PlayStation, in addition to Xbox and PC.

Whereas one the other side, Mojang via their official website revealed the reason behind why they sold Minecraft to Microsoft? Read the full explanation below, some of you might support the reason:

“Minecraft has grown from a simple game to a project of monumental significance. Though we’re massively proud of what Minecraft has become, it was never Notch’s intention for it to get this big.

As you might already know, Notch is the creator of Minecraft and the majority shareholder at Mojang. He’s decided that he doesn’t want the responsibility of owning a company of such global significance. Over the past few years he’s made attempts to work on smaller projects, but the pressure of owning Minecraft became too much for him to handle. The only option was to sell Mojang. He’ll continue to do cool stuff though. Don’t worry about that.

There are only a handful of potential buyers with the resources to grow Minecraft on a scale that it deserves. We’ve worked closely with Microsoft since 2012, and have been impressed by their continued dedication to our game and its development. We’re confident that Minecraft will continue to grow in an awesome way.

Minecraft means many different things to millions of people across the world, and to each and every Mojangsta. We feel that this is the best way for everyone – you guys included – to benefit.”

All three founders of Mojang: Notch, Carl, and Jakob are leaving the company. Will this move of Microsoft benefit Xbox One in next-gen console war against PlayStation 4? Share your opinion with us in the comment section below.

Blizzard announces new game mode, map, and characters for Heroes of the Storm

Blizzard announces new game mode, map, and characters for Heroes of the Storm

Today Blizzard revealed that a new game mode called Arena will be coming to Heroes of the Storm next year. The new mode will pit two teams of heroes against each other in “best of three” competition to take down one objective, with the winner being the first team to raze two Cores.

After a Core is destroyed, the teams are then transported to a brand new arena, where they must battle it out to destroy another Core. Blizzard has mentioned that these battles will be much shorter than normal Heroes’ rounds. Another unique attribute to the new game mode is the fact that players will only be allowed to choose their Hero from a pool of randomly chosen Heroes. There is also no limit to the amount of times a single Hero can be chosen, which means these battles will be unlike any other Heroes of the Storm battles yet.

Alongside the new game mode, Blizzard has also announced several new characters that players will be able to control in the moba. The new characters include: Cho’gall, Lunara, and Greymane.

The moba is also slated to get a new map, Towers of Doom, which will feature quite a few new features for players to take on. The first exclusive feature is the Protected Core, which replaces the normal Cores that players are used to seeing. This activates a special barrier around the Cores that players cannot attack. In order to bring down the new Protected Cores you’ll have to work with your team to activate all the Altars that appear around the map. Activating the Altars will activate your Bell Towers, which will fire upon the enemy’s Core. Be careful though, as each Bell Tower lost to your enemy, is a another volley of damage that can be struck upon your Core. You can find out more info about Towers of Doom in the video below.

Ubisoft Explains How ZombiU PS4/XOne Port Will Working Without Second Screen, New Melee Weapons And More

Ubisoft Explains How ZombiU PS4/XOne Port Will Working Without Second Screen, New Melee Weapons And More

Recently, Ubisoft announced that Wii U exclusive ZombiU is coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in August 2015 with a new name “Zombi”. The announcement received positive response from PlayStation and Xbox community, however they are some who are a bit confused regarding how Zombi will work without a second screen?

Zombi PS4/Xbox One Screenshot

In a recent blog post on Ubisoft website, Zombi Producer, Helene Henry, explained the working of Zombi on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One without a second screen. Henry stated:

“We knew from the beginning that maintaining the tension and feel of the original was one of the main challenges, as the way ZombiU was presented on Wii U cannot be reproduced.”

Here is the short and quick summary of information shared by Henry.

Development team wanted to maintain a minimal HUD in order to preserve ZombiU’s sense of lonlieness.
Mini Map in Zombi will only appear in a corner of the screen. It will be visible only if player need it
There will be a increase of FOV to give player more special awareness
Accessing the backpack won’t pause the game. The backpack interface of Zombi will appear in the middle of the screen and player will still be able to see to the left and the right direction for zombies.
Multiplayer portion was deliberately removed from the game as it was not possible without the two screens.

Some other minor changes:

There will be two new Melee weapons, “Shovel and Nail Bat”. Shovel has longer range and can hit multiple enemies in one swing, nail bat does more damage and also can hit multiple enemies.
Flashlight has a new high setting with a wider, farther reaching beam but it will attract even more zombies when you use it.
Flashlight now has a battery and has to recharge (ala Half-Life)
Game “will perform better on newer consoles” (obvious) and controls have been tweaked to be more responsive.

If you missed out on the announcement of Zombi for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, you can watch the trailer below.

PAX East Daily Tickets On Sale, 3-Day Passes Sold Out in Record Time

PAX East Daily Tickets On Sale, 3-Day Passes Sold Out in Record Time

PAX East tickets went on sale yesterday and three day passes are already sold out!

PAX East tickets went on sale on just under a day ago and, already, Saturday and three day badges are already sold out. According to the group’s Facebook page, three day badges sold out nearly instantly, despite the fact that the specific date and time the tickets would go on sale was unknown.

The convention, which will happen on the first weekend of March next year, is insanely popular for its relative age, with the first one occurring in 2010. In 2011, the second year of the convention, nearly 70,000 people attended PAX East; the numbers have only increased since then and the convention is only five years old! PAX, now known as PAX Prime, started only ten years ago, in 2004, and now has conventions in several cities: Seattle, Boston, and, Melbourne, Australia; the first PAX South, to be held in San Antonio, Texas, will happen next year, in January.

Though three-day passes and Saturday badges are sold out, Friday and Sunday badges are still available for $45.00 each. Badges are limited to four per day, per person, as to make it fair for all potential attendees and limit the prevalence of salpers looking to sell tickets for an exorbitant profit.

PAX East will take place in Boston at the Boston Convention and Expo Center from March 6 to March 8, 2015. Check out PAX’s website for information about guests and events for PAX East and future PAX conventions.

Game Awards 2015: Rock Band VR Is Like Guitar Hero Live, But Also Not

Game Awards 2015: Rock Band VR Is Like Guitar Hero Live, But Also Not

Oculus support is coming to Rock Band 4 in the form of Rock Band VR, as announced during The Game Awards 2015.

The clip shown during the show featured Harmonix personnel hanging out with Dragonforce, clanging fake guitars against a stage, and making fools of themselves to emulate the “rock star life.”

It looks like that’s what Rock Band VR is aiming to do as well, much like what Guitar Hero Live accomplished with the live footage onscreen shown to players when they’re performing well or abhorrently.

I hate to say it, but I think right now from this early footage Guitar Hero Live might have done a better job in the aesthetic department, but having never tested out an Oculus Rift, I’d still have to give this a spin to see how I feel.

Symantec, Adobe lobby EU over Vista

Symantec, Adobe lobby EU over Vista

Two Symantec engineers will visit Brussels next week to discuss the antitrust threat posed to their company by the upcoming Microsoft Vista OS, a Symantec spokesman said on Thursday.

Vice president for consumer engineering Rowan Trollope and a senior engineer in the technology strategy office, Bruce McCorkendale, will put their case to the European antitrust regulator, the European Commission. Vista is due to launch at the beginning of next year.

The Commission has warned Microsoft about the possible impact on competition of Vista’s built-in security software. The regulator fears that by including a sophisticated antivirus program into Vista, this could have a similar effect to the bundling of Media Player with Windows XP.

Two and a half years ago the Commission ruled that the bundling of Media Player into Windows was anticompetitive and ordered Microsoft to launch a second version of Windows without Media Player. It also find the company nearly €500 million.

Meanwhile, Adobe has told European Union regulators that Microsoft should be banned from bundling in free competing software for reading and writing electronic documents into Vista, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal Europe.

The paper cites unnamed people familiar with the situation.

Adobe and Symantec lobbying moves will come as no surprise to the Commission. Competition Commissioner Neelie Kroes wrote to Microsoft in March expressing concern about Vista’s impact on competition, and cited the computer security and document reader and writers sectors as examples of where Microsoft’s bundling strategy might pose competition problems.

However, earlier this week Kroes insisted she wasn’t calling for Microsoft to launch Vista without any security system.

“I have seen it suggested that the Commission may seek to prevent Microsoft from improving the security of its operating system. This is categorically not the case,” she wrote in a letter to the Financial Times newspaper.
